An album I've never come across in a record store: Am I Too Much Woman For You — the debut of American soul singer Lynn White. No surprise there, as it's also the sole release of the small soul & blues label run by Ike Darby out of Mobile, Alabama’s largest port city.

How Ms. Lynn White went from singing in church and running her own record store to recording in Mr. Darby’s studio is a story told in the LP’s liner notes:

Ms. Lynn White a Leo born August 6, 1953 in Mobile, Al. At the age of six she attended A. F. Owens Elementary School and then to Dunbar Jr. High School. Lynn attended Central High and graduated in 1972. While in school Lynn started singing in Church, she became lead singer in both the Jr. and Senior Choirs. She sung in several churches throughout the community. People in the community were very pleased at the talented Lynn White.

While attending school Lynn worked part-time in a Music Store. She loved music and loved to sing. In the summer of 1972 Lynn was hired full-time at the Music Store. The owner of the Music Store was a dis jockey at the radio station WMOO and could only spend a little time at the store. In 1973 Lynn attended Bishop State Jr. College, after graduation she became manager of the Music Store.

Lynn sung in local night clubs in the city and surrounding areas. She simply loves music of all types. Among the most favorite artist of Lynn, she loves the music of Aretha Franklin and B. B. King. While Lynn was managing the record store she would often sing along with the records....and one day Ike Darby asked her to sing a song that he wrote for himself to record.... Ike was overwhelmed with the way Lynn sang and gave it to her to learn. Three months later in June of 1977, Lynn White was given a recording with Darby Records of Mobile....and her first record was "Blues In My Bedroom". Written, Arranged and Produced by Ike Darby. This song has caught every ear that has heard it.....in the UNITED STATES, OVERSEAS, BELGIUM, EUROPE, TOKO & JAPAN.

June 10, 1978, Lynn opened a show of Success at the Mississippi Home-Coming in Fayette, Miss. with stars like B. B. King, Tyrone Davis, Bobby Bland, Nancy Wilson, Little Milton and many others. Lynn performed that night...B. B. King asked her if she would continue for the 11 day tour with him. She was very thrilled that every where she performed, soul was exploded. On June 21, 1978, Lynn was welcomed to the Blues Field by all the Blues Artist. Since then Lynn has been performing on her own and on several engagements in Lake Tahoe, Reno, Nevada.....and many times with B.B. King her favorite male artist.
