Very little is known about The Pat Patrick Band today. The album was recorded in Nashville and features three cover versions of absolute classics: Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “I Wish,” along with The Beatles’ “Got to Get You Into My Life.” 

The back cover reveals little more than a booking phone number and a thank-you to everyone who had danced to their music over the years. That’s exactly what gives this independent production its charm.

While Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” have been covered countless times, versions of “I Wish” are much harder to come by. That makes this private press recording all the more interesting.

Of course, it can’t match Stevie Wonder’s untouchable original. But the band grooves through the song with infectious energy. Funky piano, punchy horns, and a cool vocal performance turn “I Wish” into a dancefloor-ready DJ cut.
