When it comes to cover records for DJs, this one definitely belongs in that category. Grooves For Dancing, the only album by the Chuck Boris Trio, was released in 1973 on Scepter Records and is packed with funky cover versions, perfect for DJs.

Very little is known about the band itself. They left behind just this one LP, making it a classic case of a mysterious studio band with an impressively tight sound.

The tracklist reads like a DJ toolbox of the early 70s:
“Killing Me Softly,” “Shaft,” “Proud Mary,” “Games People Play,” and “Funky Nassau.” All tracks reinterpreted somewhere between jazz, funk, soul, and dancefloor groove.

That’s exactly what makes the record so interesting: the focus isn’t on original compositions, but on a consistent concept of well-known songs reworked for groove and flow.

Original pressings aren’t cheap these days and not easy to find either. The LP is considered rare funk/jazz digger material, partly because it stayed under the radar for a long time.
