Stand By MeThe Cake
00:00 / 02:47

On their 1967 debut album, The Cake deliver a wonderful version of Stand By Me, the song Ben E. King turned into one of the most timeless soul classics in 1961.
The New York girl group was active only briefly, but moved far away from the typical 1960s girl group sound. Baroque pop, blue-eyed soul, and refined vocal arrangements instead of teen-pop clichés.
Their version of Stand By Me lives through layered harmonies and a timeless elegance.
No big drama, no soul pathos, but an unexpectedly subtle and very distinctive vocal statement.
Pure 60ies CoverLove straight outta New York City.
