On Pipas Records, only two releases appeared in the 70s: a 45 and the only album by The Bossmen. A typical private press, where you never quite know what to expect.
As quirky and offbeat as the record covers are, that’s often exactly how the songs sound. Right up our alley here at CoverLove.
On their only album, the four guys from Chicago take on several classics, including Carole King’s “It’s Too Late” and “Funky Nassau” by The Beginning of the End.
Their version stays fairly close to the original, but feels fresh, raw, and pleasantly unpolished.
More than ten years ago it was considerably more expensive, but today, if you manage to find a copy, you can get it for around 50 dollars in VG+ condition.
