In 1979, folk/prog rock band Tangerine from Provence released the single Yragael – a French adaptation of the Doobie Brothers classic Long Train Runnin’.
At the center is Valérie Btesh, whose soft, elegant voice gives the song an entirely new shade. Music was in her blood – she’s the half-sister of French chanson star Richard Anthony (born Richard Btesh).
Rolling guitars, a laid-back groove, and that voice – all of it gives Long Train Runnin’ a fresh color without losing the engine of the original.
Doobie groove meets Provence prog – and Valérie Btesh adds a charming Francophone flair to the evergreen.
A little French 7-inch gem that also works perfectly on the dancefloor.
