Let It BeSpanky Wilson
00:00 / 02:56

In my record collection, I have two albums by the American singer Louella "Spanky" Wilson: Doin’ It from 1969 and Let It Be from 1970. Both albums were arranged and produced by H. B. Barnum and feature well-known cover versions.
On this album, for example, there's Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and the Beatles cover Let It Be, which also gives the album its title. The song starts off mellow and soulful before transforming—after the first chorus—into a soulful funk anthem with powerful horn sections. Spanky’s voice pours raw emotion into McCartney’s lyrics, turning the contemplative ballad into a gospel-tinged standout. A deep-cut gem for crate-diggers and Beatles cover connoisseurs alike.
