Feel Like Making Love
Rosemary Bailey
Private press, 1976

Feel Like Makin’ Love is one of the great soul songs of the 1970s. Written by Eugene McDaniels and turned into a worldwide hit by Roberta Flack in 1974. A song that immediately creates a warm, intimate mood and has therefore been covered countless times.
One version you rarely come across appears on the 1976 album Rosemary by Rosemary Bailey. One of those records you do not see very often, which makes it all the more interesting.
Bailey takes the Flack classic and places it in a softer, slightly jazzier soul setting. The song remains instantly recognizable, but gains a different color, less radio gloss and more private press lounge groove.
Somewhere between easy listening, bossa nova, and smooth jazz floats this beautiful Canadian instrumental version of Feel Like Makin’ Love.
My absolute highlight is the xylophone, which gives the whole recording a playful, sparkling tone and immediately lifts the track out of the crowd of many cover versions. Pure CoverLove.
