To this day, nobody really knows who was behind the name Lou Ojena. Much suggests that it was a fictional name, as the record was likely a tax-scam release. These were obscure recordings reissued under new names, often less to sell music than to generate paper losses for tax purposes.

What makes the story even more interesting is that the songs on Love Story match material recorded by the garage rock band Jack Bedient & The Chessmen on their album Where Did She Go. That only adds to the mystery surrounding the recordings’ true origin.

Whatever the real story may be, the album features a great version of Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” The song originally appeared in 1965 on Bringing It All Back Home and is widely regarded as one of the early folk-rock classics.
