There was A TimeLester Wilson
00:00 / 03:19

Lester Wilson was an American dancer, choreographer, and singer. He lived in New York, Paris, and Munich, directed musicals, and in 1970 recorded two albums – both packed with cover versions of well-known soul, rock, pop, and funk classics.
The tight funk sound on his first album Move came from an orchestra led by German producer Heinz Kiessling, who arranged, recorded, and produced the songs.
The tracklist reads like a who’s who of music history: Light My Fire (The Doors), Yesterday & Hey Jude (The Beatles), Walk On By (Burt Bacharach) – and as the album’s highlight: a breathtaking, high-speed version of James Brown’s There Was a Time.
At nearly 160 BPM, the song almost hits the pain threshold. Pure energy – unstoppable!
