Use Me

Kimiko Kasai

CBS, 1975

A song that’s already perfect, yet keeps working in new ways again and again.

“Use Me” comes from American soul singer Bill Withers and was released in 1972 on his album Still Bill. The track became one of his biggest hits, driven by that iconic bass loop and its dry funk groove.

In 1975, Kimiko Kasai takes on the song. On This Is My Love, it turns into a distinctly jazzier version. The groove remains, but everything feels more refined, airy, and playful.

Kasai is one of the most important jazz singers in Japan of the 70s, and you can clearly hear that here.
