Michael Jackson with a Brazilian twist? Absolutely.

Sabor, released in 1984, showcases Grupo Alcano with a full lineup of horns, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, percussion, and multiple vocalists. With “Socorro (Thriller),” the band takes on one of the biggest pop classics of the 1980s. The Portuguese title Socorro means “Help!” and reflects the Brazilian adaptation of the song.

The original appeared in 1982 on Michael Jackson’s landmark album Thriller and remains one of the most famous pop songs of all time. The legendary music video turned it into a true pop culture icon.

Unlike many other cover versions, Grupo Alcano stays remarkably close to the original. The biggest difference is the language: instead of English, the song is performed in Portuguese, giving “Thriller” a distinctly Brazilian identity. Faithful to the original, yet unmistakably Brazilian.
