Luxo Pesado (Got To Be Real)Fernanda Abreu
00:00 / 04:21

Fernanda Abreu is considered a pioneer of Brazilian funk music – and known as the “Funk Queen” of Rio de Janeiro. In 1990, she released her debut album Sla Radical Dance Disco Club – a wild, danceable mix of disco, electro-funk, ’80s vibes, and old-school hip-hop.
The record is heavily influenced by the Black block parties in Rio’s favelas and bursts with samples, beats, and attitude. Abreu brings U.S. club culture into Brazilian Portuguese – and turns it into something truly her own.
The highlight: her Portuguese version of Cheryl Lynn’s disco-funk anthem Got to Be Real. Soul, funk, Rio – it’s all there. And all right on point.
