Wooden Ships
Chris Harwood
Birth, 1973

Chris Harwood’s debut LP on the obscure British label Birth was also her only album – no singles were released, nor were there any further recordings. And that’s exactly what makes Nice to Meet Miss Christine one of the most sought-after British female folk records of all time.
For this rare gem, Chris Harwood gathered a who's who of the British rock and folk scene – the result: an atmospherically rich, stylistically diverse LP that moves between folk, rock, funk, and psychedelia.
My personal highlight: Chris Harwood’s cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s Wooden Ships. Her almost bare voice floats above a dry backbeat, layered with Clavinet grooves and carried by lush strings – psychedelically hypnotic and as intense as an LSD trip.
An album that definitely deserved more attention.
