“Best California Dreamin’ ever!” someone wrote under the YouTube clip of this version back in 2014. And honestly, there aren’t many arguments against it. For many – myself included – Brotherhood’s 1969 version is indeed one of the best. Rockier than the original, with a touch of psychedelia and overflowing with West Coast vibes.

The best part: the record isn’t some pricey collector’s item but can often still be found for little money. Brotherhood show impressively that good sound doesn’t have to be rare or expensive – their cover of the Mamas & the Papas classic is proof.
