Of course, James Brown’s funk from the American South also found its way to South America. In 1972, the Brazilian Boogaloo Combo released their legendary album Com Muito Ritmo – a record full of Latin-tinged cover versions, including even two tracks by The Crusaders.

But the clear highlight of the album is their version of Hot Pants Road – originally by The J.B.’s, James Brown’s own band, from their 1972 album Food for Thought.

The driving percussion, the biting organ sound, and not least the short but brilliant flute solo in the middle give this version a flavor all its own.
