Feel Like Making Love

Ana Mazzotti

Top Tape, 1974

Feel Like Making LoveAna Mazzotti
00:00 / 03:52

Brazilian singer Ana Mazzotti took on Eugene McDaniels’ Feel Like Makin’ Love in 1974, the very same year the original was released. At the time, Roberta Flack had scored a worldwide number-one hit with the song.

Flack later said she had actually wanted to make a less poetic record than Killing Me Softly and still ended up with another massive hit.

Mazzotti translates this fresh soul classic directly into a Brazilian sound world. Warm, soft, relaxed, more evening breeze than radio gloss. The Fender Rhodes groove floats, everything breathes, and that’s exactly where the charm of this version lies.

Mazzotti’s story is a tragic one. Despite her musical quality, she never achieved a major breakthrough. She struggled with institutional sexism in the industry and never reached the audience her recordings truly deserved. Far too early, at just 37 years old, she lost her battle with cancer.

That’s precisely why this version feels like a small window in time. A global soul hit mirrored across the Atlantic in the same year and wrapped in Brazilian elegance. These are exactly the kind of parallel worlds we love at CoverLove.
