On the super-rare debut album by the largely unknown Indian folk-rock singer Ajit Singh, you’ll find a whole series of excellent cover versions. Elton John, Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond. Western songwriter folk, recorded and interpreted in early 1970s Bombay.
My personal highlight is Ajit Singh’s version of Stephen Stills’ For What It’s Worth. The melody remains familiar, but the subtly added bongos in the background give the song a warm, distinctive color.
A beautiful cover version from India that hardly anyone knows, and that’s exactly why it fits CoverLove perfectly.
