Like A Rolling Stone
& Kurt & Noah
Astra, 1971

The only album by the now largely forgotten rock band & Kurt & Noah from Québec, There Are Things was released in 1970 on the small Canadian label Astra Records.
Original copies are still fairly easy to find in Canada, but outside the country they rarely turn up, making the album surprisingly hard to find for collectors elsewhere.
The album includes just one cover version: Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.” Originally released in 1965 on Highway 61 Revisited, the song is considered one of the most influential recordings in the history of popular music, thanks to its groundbreaking blend of folk and rock.
Kurt, the lead singer, and Noah, the lead guitarist and arranger, take a completely different approach. Their version is delicate, dreamy, and beautifully rooted in folk rock. Instead of the original’s intensity, they rely on warm vocals, acoustic guitars, and an easy-going, feel-good atmosphere.
It’s exactly this sense of lightness that gives the song its own unique twist and makes this, for me, one of the most beautiful interpretations of Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.”
